Mum-mums

As long as E has been eating mum-mums we have been getting the veggie flavor, actually I should say as long as we have been eating them, those things are actually pretty good! During a recent trip to Tar-jay I realized that they also have banana flavored mum-mums. E loves her some bananas so I figured she would also loves these.......NOT. As soon as I tried one, I knew she wasn't going to like them, compared to the veggie they are VERY bland. I actually don't taste much banana at all they mostly just taste like rice, so we will be sticking to our favorites and getting veggie flavored. Of course I went back to target today and all they had was the banana flavored, so we may have to just ad them to our diapers.com order.

We have also been getting puffs lately too. I totally buy the target brand, as the Gerber ones are much more expensive and they all taste the same to me. I am excited for E to finally master the pincher grasp so that I do not have to feed her the puffs anymore. The past few days I have had to toss them in her mouth, girlfriend loves to show off her chompers and bite down on anything that comes near her mouth.

Seriously lady back off.

We have a neighbor, a very crazy one..
She lives across the hall (were 3rd floor condo peeps)
and she's CRAZY, did I mention that already?

Right after we moved in (3.5 years ago) my husband was coming home from work one day, still in uniform realized that there were ambulances, and patrol cars outside, so of course he wasn't just going to walk by, he looked around a realized they were all in crazy lady's house so he stopped in to see what was going on.

The story is she "tried" to kill herself by overdosing on pain pills, and called 911, when it didn't work the way she planned. So once she got released from the hospital after an eval, she came home and knocked on our door and  thanked my husband for stopping over.

Well, a few days later I started hearing weird stories about my husband as told by crazy lady (who's 55 by the way). She was telling the neighbors that he.. are you ready for this.. was secretly in love with her, which is why he stopped over, when he heard she tried to kill herself, (in her words) he wanted to save her life.

Lets get this straight lady, police officer comes home to find other officers he works with in our building, assisting fire & EMT, and since it is pretty much his job, he stopped over to see if you were really as crazy as all the neighbors had been saying.... yea your right.. sounds like true love to me.. in fact I think you guys are best fitted to be life partners.... are you CRAZY?

O yea thats right you are that why we call you crazy lady.

I should explain that I truly feel horribly sorry for people who are suicidal, and have tried to end their lives. What I do not feel sorry for, are people who are a drag on the system, and pretend to kill themselves so they get checked into the hospital for a few days to be evaluated, for the possibility of being prescribed more drugs. Do I really think this woman is suicidal... absolutely NOT, I am a nurse I have worked with suicidal patients, (not many, but still), and my husband deals with them all the time.
Put simply: if she was going to do it, I think she would have by now.

Ok so that went down three years ago, thats pretty much how me met her. Over the next few weeks she started knocking on our door every so often, most of the time my husband was at work. She would say things like..
"Is the officer home?"
or
"Something horrible has happened I need Law Enforcement assistance"

I would always tell her "you should call 911 then"
she would try to get me to call my husband, or say can you ask him to stop by when he gets home..

Um how do I put this.. NO.

One time after a huge snow, she saw me outside and asked if my husband would be coming home in uniform and if so wasn't he obligated to shovel out her car...??

Are you freakin kiddin me lady, hire the neighbors kid to shovel you car out, or shovel it yourself.. he is a police officer, not the paper boy looking for some spending money, and no he is not obligated to do anything for you. If you need a cop call 911 don't come knocking on our door.

One time, she even came to the door, I answered it and she said " my cable is out, is yours?" I told her ours was fine, and went to shut the door, she then said "Are you sure ? can I come in and just check?, O and is the officer here?"... alright you really starting to get on my nerves. How about you go pop some pills, turn your horrible country music up loud, and pet one of your thirteen cats, and leave us the hell ALONE. I told her thats not a good idea, and I think it would be best if she left. She didn't seem very happy with that... she should be glad that I opened the door and not my husband as he would have said it in a few other words.

So every few weeks, she calls 911 they come out, and the cycles continues.

Today I left for work at noon, that crazy woman must have waited until she saw my car pull away, and then walked over and POUNDED on my door (which woke the child who has the ear infection and has not been sleeping, great one more reason to hate her
My husband answered and told me it went something like this..
Crazy Lady: I need someone to talk to
Husband: What?!?!
CL: I have to much going on in my life and I need to talk to someone
H: So call a therapist
CL: No I want to talk to you..
(You have to remember he is a cop, so he is used to dealing with peoples crap all day long, he doesn't really put up with Bullsh*t, O, and he's really blunt)
H: Yea but I don't really want to talk to you
CL: Why do you hate me, I just need you to let me in
H: Let you in? Are you F'n serious.. I don't know you, you need to go home
CL: Fine if you don't let me in I will go home and just kill myself then
H: O.K. well while you over there dial 911, you can talk to them

As soon as he closed the door, he picked up his phone and called into dispatch for them to start some units this way for the neighbor. I'm sure the police who respond here are kinda tired of this show, that goes on like once a month.

So I'm sure after she gets released from this eval, she will be knocking on the door thanking her "knight in shining Armour" for calling the ambulance and saving her life again... and let me tell you... If I hear her tell me one more time.. how she can't say no to a "man in uniform".. I may just flip out on her..... DO you realize you could be his mother.

Seriously Back Off.....

Again, I am not writing this in any way to make fun anyone who is suicidal. We know this woman is now, but, (and my husband can tell you this) citizens know what words to use to get their way with police officers, so they get taken to the hospital, and possibly given more drugs. Like I said earlier, I am deeply saddened for anyone who is going through a dark time in their life. What upsets me even more is the attention given to those who are pretending to be suicidal, and those who truly are get no attention at all. This post is more about this crazy woman who is probably telling the nurses about the dreamy officer who she is planning to marry one day, what she needs to realize is he is married to me, and she's almost old enough to carry an AARP card.

No not another one..

Last night, was a horrible night. In fact it really reminded me of the newborn days. E is a good sleeper, while she does not actually sleep through the night, she goes to bed easily and puts her self to sleep, and if she does wake in the night, she goes back to sleep without much of a fuss. Well, that all ended two days ago. Last night I tried to put her to sleep after her normal bedtime routine, as soon as I laid her down in her crib, she started screaming. I thought, maybe she has learned that if she screams I will come back, so I let her go.. 3 hours later we were still trying to get her to sleep.

We were just at the doctors a few days ago to check her ears and the doctor said they were fine. The doctor thought that maybe she was teething. The past few days she has been a horrible napper too which is also very unlike her. Sister likes her naps, enough to sleep sometimes more then 2 hours. So as soon as the sleep is off I know something is up. Last night she screamed ALL.NIGHT.LONG.

I tried everything, and nothing worked, I even put her in bed with me, that was a nightmare. I think between the three of us we maybe got an hour of sleep. So I called the pedi and left a message, she said she wanted to see her.

We went in today, and she looked in her ears and said they looked great, her throat also looked good, nothing was really a red flag as to what could e going on. However with E's ear history the doctor wanted to do a test to measure the sound waves to check for deeper fluid.

The poor girl screamed and screamed during the test, which the assured me was painless. The results came back, and showed that the sound waves were moving fine in the L ear, but not good at all in the R ear, indicating deep fluid.

We left with another script for Ammox, and instructions to treat with ibuprofen. I really hope this takes care of it. I really hate to see this poor girl, in this much pain.

Thankfully we go to see the ENT in about a week, to discuss tubes.

O so thats where they come from.

While at a cookout, while I was pregnant with E, I had the following convo with our pastors 4 year old son, who's mother was also pregnant at the same time.
I am Pink He is Blue

When do you fink I will getta see the baby in yours belly?
Soon, just a few more weeks and she will be out.
Why tant I jus see hers right now?
Well she is not done growing, she needs to get a little bit bigger first.
Bigger as mines mommy's baby in hers belly
Actually my baby is bigger then the one in your mommas belly and will be here much sooner then hers
OOOO yea dat's why yours so much fatter then mines mommy.
(Thinking: Your lucky your 4 kid)
Ten I come to the day your baby comes out?
Well, I wish you could but I don't think the doctors will let you.
But how does the baby come out?
(Thinking: Great, why are you asking me couldn't you have asked your mother)
You go to the hospital and the doctor helps it come out
Come out where?
Out of my belly.
Yea but how does it comes out of dere
(Thinking: think...think...think..what to say)
O wait my grammy said that when she had my mom, she did not have to get hers belly cut like mines mom did, will you have to get your belly cut?
I don't know, the Doctor will decide
Well if there is no cut in your belly then there has to be a hole somewhere that it comes out of wite?
Yes, thats right it comes out of a hole.
(with his eyebrows raised) Do you have a hole?
(Thinking: O my Lord, somebody please shoot me now///while I pretended not to hear it)
Can I see da hole?
You know let's just wait and see what the doctor says, you never know how it will come out until that day.
(With a concerned look) O When you see the knife go in yours belly you will know.

I was very ready for this convo to be over over so I suggested we go see if the burgers were done.. thats when he walked over an tapped my very much so "popped" belly button and said:

Found it
Found what?
Yours hole.

Hair today, gone...

After a few sessions.

What am I speaking of, no it's not a haircut, more of hair removal... PERMANENT hair removal.... through LASER. I know I know your all thinking tons of things like is its going to hurt, is it expensive, does it really work, what are the side effects. Honestly I would be asking the same thing too if it were my first time... but it's not. In fact my treatments are all over and done with, and girlfriends... I am hair free!!!!!!

As most of you know I (pre-baby) worked as a nurse in a cosmetic/derm wing where we did mostly reconstruction, and carcinoma removal surgeries. However we also did a full line of cosmetic proceedures like botox, pearlene, microdermabrasion, and Laser Hair Removal, which just happens to be my favorite of all of the procedures.

When I had time in between treating patients I would jump on the table and get rid of as much hair as I could that day. If I wasn't a nurse getting it done for free in the office would I still do it... heck yes. So lets talk basics.

Laser is just light, basically its light it one frequency, then penetrated into the skin, to the level of hair growth, it searches for what is dark (the hair root) and burns it up. Since your hair grows in cycles (resting stage, sheding stage, growth stage) you need multiple treatments, at each treatment you are damage the current cycle. You then return 3-6 weeks later for another treatment over the same area damaging the new cycle of hair and further damaging the last cycle. You will do this 4-6 times until the hair cannot take the damage any longer and dies completely.

A good candidate for laser is someone with light skin and dark hair, (with most lasers) blonde, grey, and white hairs will not be removed. You should stay out of the sun while your having your treatments done. This is because the laser doesnt know the difference between your tan skin and your hair root if its dark its getting burned.

Before & After
Side effects: as with any cosmetic procedure there are always possible side effects, the most common being over treatment. This is what I spoke of before, if your skin is too dark it will get burned as well. Next would be possible hypo or hyper pigmentation, meaning that the treated area could become darker or lighter then the normal skin tone but will return to normal within 6 months after completion.

What does it feel like: The older lasers.. those suckers are painful. The newer  ones usually come with a cooling device that is cooled through cryogen. You will feel a cold burst of cryogen, the pulse of laser followed by a cold burst of cryogen. I do not think it is painful, I would say it is a bit uncomfortable, but after your first of second treatment you wont think anything of it. Most patients think it feel like a rubber band snapping.

I had my underarms, lower legs, bikini, and upper lip treated. While my upper lip was not much of an issue, I didnt want to hit my 40's and have to be grooming my fame everyday for the hair is not gone. It is permanent at 80%, meaning 80% of your hair will be gone forever.. you will always have a hair here or there, but those few that are left will be thinner, finner, and grow much slower. I love not having to worry about razor burn or if I need to shave before wearing certain outfits.

You do not have to let anything grow out before a treatment like you would for waxing (which hurts worse then laser by the way). You will actually shave everything down a few days before you have the treaments, and very little hair will grow back in between your sessions, so you wont have much to shave at all.

During treatment

Treatments: Each area takes a certain amount of time, the underarms take less then 12 minutes from beginning to end, a few days after the treatment the hair will begin to look like it is growing again, however it sheds out in the same way that it grows out... so after a few more days it will just fall out.

O it was far from magical

I know this story is 4 years old, but I was emailing a with a reader and realized I have never posted about it, and thought it would be fun!

Most people have wonderful memories of their Honeymoon, with a great photos, and exciting stories to retell, I am not one of those people. Allow me to tell you a different kind of story, one I have fondly titled

Disastermoon
We left for our honeymoon the morning after our wedding, we were tired, we were giddy, we were in love, and we were expecting something different. We got up at 4am honestly we never went to sleep, ha I know what your thinking and no thats not why, actually we stayed up counting all of our moo-lah, then could never fall asleep because of the horrible high winds due to the nor'easter that hit on our.. wedding, yea no outdoor photos for us to get to the airport in time to check in for our international flight. Well to make a long story.. longer.. We arrived in the Dominican Republic right on time, it was early Monday morning, almost 80 degrees and breezy, we were so not dressed for the occasion as we had just come from 50 degrees and pouring.

In all honesty Our honeymoon was really grand, we had good weather, gained like 10 pounds  ate at lots of different places, swam in crystal clear water, took full advantage of the open bar, and since were being honest and all, got it on, (cue Marvin Gaye's "Let's get it on" in the background). The disaster began to unroll as we were boarding to come home, we were sitting in the thatched roof open airport with some Big Ass (no really that was the name brand) fans blowing over head. I was wearing shorts, and a tube top, the weather was lovely... we were truly wishing we didn't have to come home.

Here is the part where it all started to fall apart, I felt a small burning sensation around my ankle, and when I looked I saw what appeared to be a mosquito bite. Sidenote: I'm super de duper allergic to mosquitos, I know you thinking...umm isn't everybody.. but for real mine become like grapefruits on the area where the bite is So I didn't think much more about it. We got on the plane, and took our seats. As the rest of the passengers where still boarding, I kept wondering if I had gotten sunburn on my ears, because they felt like they were on fire and I couldnt stop scratching them. So I asked my husband " Do my ears look burnt to you?", he said "Well they are kinda red." I then noticed that my throat was starting to feel a bit irritated, and my cheeks felt warm. You would think me being a nurse I would have realized that something was wrong, but I was still hungover on cloud 9, so I never really put 2 & 2 together.

I got up to go to the restroom right after the plane took off, just to see if maybe I really did get sunburnt. Once I got to the restroom I obviously sat down to go to the bathroom and well my friends, that when I lost it. My legs, abdomen, and chest were now completely covered in hives, so much that my thighs had turned into one giant hive, and were fire engine red. At this point I was sure that this was coming from the insect bite, and figured they had bigger, stronger, mosquitoes then we have in the US. I exited the restroom and asked a flight attendant is they had any benadryl,  of course she asked why and I told her "O I think I'm just having an allergic reaction to an insect bite." She said she didnt think they had any, and asked if I was feeling ok. I said I thought I was fun, just a little hot, and had a few hives, I guess at that point the hives had covered my neck, as she mentioned them, and said my face really looked flushed. Im sure I then looked a bit worried, she said I should go sit down and she would bring me some water.

I returned to my seat, explained to my husband what had happened, of course he was now concerned, and then I heard over the loud speaker " We apologize for interrupting the on board film, are there any doctors, emt's or medical personnel on board we have a medical emergency".... O great maybe I should have mentioned that I was a nurse, and then they wouldn't have freaked out. Well there was in fact a doctor on the plane, who came to my seat, I told him what happened, but by then I was having a hard time breathing... of course I had to be the one going into anaphylactic  shock thousands of feet in the air. The Doctor asked me a ton of questions, including where the insect bit me, and if I had an EPI pen... I didn't have one with me though.

By this point My entire body was covered with hives, I was having trouble breathing, and I could not swallow very easily. The plane had alerted the passengers that we may be making an emergency landing in S. Carolina,
Just a few minutes later the benedryl the doctor had given me started working, well I'm assuming that mixed with my adrenaline level, seemed to open up my airways, and the hives were going down. They moved me to the front of the plane and had called ahead to have paramedics ready at the gate to get me. We decided I was doing ok at this point to not stop and just head home a few states farther up the east coast.

We landed and the paramedics got us off, we didn't have to wait in any lines or go through customs, they wanted to take me to the hospital, which I would have done, however... I was really feeling much better, and I didn't have any health insurance. I was going 30 days without any, since mine was up for renewal, and I couldnt go on my husbands until 30 days after we were married, I figured nothing would happen in those 30 days... WRONG.

So I signed a waiver and said if things got worse I would go to the hospital. But really I was feeling fine at this point, just itchy with some hive patches here and there. We went out to dinner with the family that night, grabbed some groceries, and headed to our apartment, just like two little lovebirds. Everything was fine... until .... I woke up that night to go to the bathroom.

I went to get out of bed and could barely open my eyes, I though maybe I had left my contacts in, but I knew I didn't.. I stumbled to the bathroom turned on the light... and almost died. My head was double it's size, my eyes were almost swollen shut, and my lips put Angelina Jolie to shame. I ran back to bed woke my husband ans said.. " I've got hives again, my eyes are almost swollen shut, I need to go to the hospital"... he first asked are you O.K., then flipped on the light, and yelled "Holy Shit, what happened you look like E.T.".... really dude, really we have only been married 9 days and your calling me E.T. in the middle of a medical emergency. I'm sure it freaked him out, he goes to bed next to his new wife, wakes up next to E.T.... wondering if he had made a mistake... and also wondering what happened to the physical attraction. We went to the hospital where they took me back right away, and started me on epinephrine and  some steroids for my breathing.

I saw what I looked like in the reflexion of the window and I gotta say I was pretty scary looking. I kept saying "Do you think I look ugly????"... of course he never answered, just kept saying "Were here to get you better".... I'm sure a week and a half into marriage the guy was praying the doctors were right and I wasn't going to look like an alien the rest of my life. Because lets face it no amount of lingerie could make E.T. sexy.

A Nurse came in to give me a steroid shot in my arm, when she did I felt what can only be described as a very strong electrical shock run down my arm, and with the medical knowledge I had I knew exactly what just happened. She hit my nerve....and for the next 3 months I had numbness in my arm (but thats a post for a different day). The doctors found the original bite, that had turned into more of an ulcer and were able to drain the puss from it, run some tests, and found out I was bit by a BLACK WIDOW SPIDER.... seriously?!?! what did I do wrong in my life to deserve that on my honeymoon? .... finally everything seemed to calm down, the hives were mostly gone, my face was back to normal, and I could breath... so about 7 hours later (the next morning) they were discharging me. Yes, we sure did spend our first night back from our honeymoon as a married couple in the emergency room.

They sent me home with some really strong antihistimies, prednisone, and 3 other scripts. They told me the hives would come and go for the next few days and that was ok, just to keep taking the meds, and I would be fine. That afternoon while I was sleeping it off, my husband went to help a friend with some yard work, and came into contact with poison ivy, of which he is extremely sensitive too, so that night we were at the urgent care center getting prednisone for him as well.

We were laying in bed that night, both buzzin on strong meds making us drowsy, the only thing that was helping my hives was cold wash clothes laying over my arms and legs, he was putting ice packs on his poison rashes... it was anything but romantic. I couldn't stay awake from all of the meds, and he couldn't roll over without his blisters opening up, being affectionate, or cuddling were the last things on our newlywed minds.

I joke now that we prolly got the least action of any less then 2 week newlyweds, those few days. (yes, mom & dad... I did say "Action".... I hate to break it to ya... but I do have Emmaline remember?)

But at least we had been through "for worse", and figured.. all we had left now was "for better"... wrong again... as just one year later, we found ourselves right back in that same Emergency Room after we had to come home from our 1 year Anniversary trip 4 days early, because the Mr. Got a horrible case of food poisoning, and became severely dehydrated....... O the stories we could tell... I should write a book!

For those of you who are wondering .. we stayed at the Paradisus Palma Real, it was a beautiful resort, we are actually thinking of returning there.... with an EPI pen this time!

Recap of the new job.

Some of you may have noticed to recent posts, one letting you all know I accepted a job offer for a small part time job, and the second letting you know I was headed out the door to my first day. As promised here is a tiny glimpse into my first day.

I was really looking forward to it, and excited that it was my first day. I totally wasn't nervous, ok maybe a little bit, not because I thought working retail in a small children's boutique that consigns items would be tough, but it had been a while since I had done anything "New". Sure I had switched jobs here and then but that mostly consisted of changing health care facilities or moving floors, but never really outside of some type of medical world. So this, well this was just a little bit of the unknown.

I wondered what you talk about at a non medical job. I was so used to discussing the lives of patients, or doctors, or what the guest of the patient in room 3 was wearing, or how the patient in the waiting room has already been here 4 times this month. I thought this might end up being boring, with nothing to really talk about.

Boy, was I wrong. Let me tell you... you get a few moms together in a small store, some with small children running around, some with a baby in the oven, even some who dished the baby in the oven could possibly not belong to the same father as the other babies who came out of that oven. It was like as soon as they stepped into the store, they could just tell all, and not worry about it leaking out.... I must have missed the " what happens at the childrens store stays at the childrens store" memo.

It was an exciting day mostly filled with estrogen comfort talk, celebrity gossip, the who's who in local playgroups.... I'm telling you these women have more drama in their lives then the Real Housewives of the O.C. (But don't tell that to Alexis, as she thinks everyone is most interested in the daily happenings of her life)

I'm excited to go back, just to hear more chatter!  O and because I spotted a few things I will be spending my paycheck on using my employee discount on, because if truth be told, that is pretty much the only reason I took the job.

First day

I'm starting my new job today.......Don't worry I will post about it later

This is such a weird feeling I have not started a new job for 4 years and even then, it was just changing health care facilities.

Summer Clothes.... I've got my eye on

Can you believe it, though it may not feel like it outside yet, summer really is on its way. Now for some of you that means you just pull out all the summer clothes from last year... if thats you raising your hand.. good for you. Me on the other hand, while some of those clothes from last summer will still be fine... my mom body may need some new clothes you know to hide the areas that still need toning accentuate the positives.

When it comes to swimwear I have always been pretty true to Victoria Secret, I have also learned that if there is a swim suite I really like this year but its a bit pricey it will most likely be on clearance next summer. Here are the ones Im thinking about for this year.
Polka dot banded halter and low rise bottom

Wireless push up halter & bikini style bottoms

Until I feel comfortable in a bathing suit again, I will be rocking this beach cover-up!
The Beach Dress cover-up
What else am I loving for summer.. well Im glad you asked

J Crew Chambray Eyelet Skirt

If only this dress wasn't $325... so not a SAHM budget friendly dress

Gallerista Party Dress

7fam bootcut x-long in mercer

AE crochet detail racer

And just a little something to drool over, that will never ( at $595) make it to my closet unless someone else buys it....

I just love this color
